Week 97 header

Welcome to Week 97 of Mmm Mondays, where we turn Monday woes into Monday whoas!

On this day in History (November 4, 1922) the steps leading to King Tut’s tomb were found by Howard Carter, revealing one of the most opulent Egyptian finds ever known to mankind. Which is great, but approximately 100 years before that, a different man would find what we know now as the Turin Erotic Papyrus– an erotic depiction of 12 sexual acts. Like so many relics of World History, no one quite knows what the papyrus was. Could it have been a dirty magazine, the first of its kind? A piece of literature made for the ruling class? Or perhaps a recording of one courtesans adventurous life? The past rarely reveals its secrets to the future, but if we pay attention, we may learn that while the times change, the heart of humans stay very much the same.

Last Week’s Links

Last week had 5 scrumptious posts.
May started us off with Gen and Friends had a Ball, a series about Gen being dared by her friends to knock on the door of Old Mister Roberts, and how her story unfolds. Each episode of this 13-part story is short and sweet, but definitely worth the time to read.

Marie shared two tales. The first being Her Haunted House, where a woman returns home to make a haunting discovery. And then The Oktoberfest Murders, where we see a Detective develops a s taste for…sausage? (I can’t give it away!)

Then Steeled Snake and Charmer highlighted Halloween with some dark chocolate.

And to finish off a delicious week, a delicious story by Kristan X, where we all got some much needed Stress Relief.

You can read all those Mmm’s and more here.

Week 97 Recommended Reads

Tantalizing Tales

It was a hauntingly sexy week at Tantalizing Tales. If you like erotica, and you like Ghost stories, this past Halloween spooktacular was the perfect combination. This week’s tale isn’t quite a ghost story. It’s about the Monsters that we live with. What we choose to do with them, well, some ways work better than others.

tonight I was going to try something different. It liked to watch me sleep? Well, tonight it could watch me do a lot more. I’d gone without any relief for too long. Too shy to do anything because I had an audience.

This story is sexy, fun, and enticing. It’s also going to have a sequel.

You can subscribe to Tantalizing Tales here. Don’t have a medium account? For $5 a month you can read every and all medium stories (in every genre). Use this link to help an aspiring writer.

Book Club

A new month brings a new book. October’s book How to be eaten by Maria Adelmann was an amazing book, and I highly recommend it. I will have a summary post about that soon, but just want to say now that it was a wonderfully edgy read. With dark humour, delightful dialogue, and a touch of fantasy, it’s combines the best of so many genres, all in one place. You’d think it would be aimed towards women, but I found Mister K sat and listened with me often, asking me to fill in gaps if he missed some content. It’s poignant, gorgeously written, and a million times better than it sounds.

November’s Recommended Book

The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean

November recommended Read

The Book Eaters is a work of Fiction, but also falls into horror, fantasy, gothic and LGBT. So basically, it’s for everyone. Good reads describes The Book Eaters like this:

“Out on the Yorkshire Moors lives a secret line of people for whom books are food, and who retain all of a book’s content after eating it. To them, spy novels are a peppery snack; romance novels are sweet and delicious. Eating a map can help them remember destinations, and children, when they misbehave, are forced to eat dry, musty pages from dictionaries.

Devon is part of The Family, an old and reclusive clan of book eaters. Her brothers grow up feasting on stories of valor and adventure, and Devon—like all other book eater women—is raised on a carefully curated diet of fairytales and cautionary stories.

But real life doesn’t always come with happy endings, as Devon learns when her son is born with a rare and darker kind of hunger—not for books, but for human minds.”

A full synopsis will be out at the end of November. If anyone would like to read a long with me, let me know!

Week 97 Recipe

Basbousa (semolina Cake)

Egypt sits in a unique location. Although technically a country of Africa, it is the only African country to border the Middle east. With the combination of cultures, comes a combinations of flavours. In North America (and likely the majority of the western world, minus the Mediterranean) semolina is used mostly for pasta. But it has a great texture for cake too. Of a sort.
