Equipment

  • cocktail shaker with strainer

Ingredients

  • oz gin such as Hendrick's
  • ¾ oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 -¾ oz simple syrup see notes
  • 2 oz Champagne
  • Long spiral lemon twist for serving

Instructions

  • Combine gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Fill shaker with ice, cover, and shake vigorously until outside of shaker is very cold, about 20 seconds.
  • Strain cocktail through a Hawthorne strainer or a slotted spoon into a large flute. Top with Champagne; garnish with lemon twist.

Notes

Simple syrup is the only element of this cocktail recipe that requires a little work: Add 1 cup of boiling water to 1 cup of sugar and stir vigorously until the sugar dissolves completely, then chill until cool. Champagne is the traditional choice for the bubbles, but any good and very dry sparkling wine like cava or prosecco will work in a pinch.
