week 29 - sangria

Welcome to Week 29 of Mmm Mondays, where we turn Monday woes into Monday whoas!

Last week had 13 titillating posts. We saw a debt paid, time spent in the moment, and tested the bonds of friendship. There was even some time for old habits, marching to the beat of one’s own drum, and the enjoyment of a lazy Saturday. You can see of those delights and more here.

Mmm Mondays opens each Friday at Noon MDT (UTC -7) and closes the following Tuesday at 6pm, giving you four days to share what makes you say Mmm. Posts may be about anything you find delicious (within legal limits) and image only posts are certainly welcome.

If you’ve never been here before, please take a few seconds to read the rules, grab a badge, then add your post below using the linky tool. For those on social media, you can promote your contribution and this meme by using #mmmMondays or #mmmMondaysmeme.

If you don’t have your own blog, but want to play along, no worries. Simply send MrsK a message at lifeofakinkywife@gmail.com, via twitter, or using the on-site submission form. We’d love to have you!

I know we’re all busy and enjoying the mid-summer heat, but please take a few seconds to read one or two (or more) other posts, and like or comment if they make you say Mmm too. I encourage sharing and for any posts you missed, watch for them on Twitter each Monday.

Have an image that fits the Mmm theme? Whether food, fun or flirty, we want to highlight you!

Sangria is one of my favourite summer beverages. It’s fruity and juicy, with just enough wine to give it a kick. You can find my summer recipe at the end of this post.

Summer Sangria

Ingredients:

Alcohol + Juices

  • 1 bottle dry red wine (750 milliliter bottle)
  • 1/2 cup triple sec
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup lemon or lime juice
  • 1 cup orange juice

Fruits

  • blueberries – 1 cup
  • cherries – 1 cup
  • 1 lime
  • 1 orange
  • 1/2 lemon
  • mint sprigs (I use mojito mint, but peppermint or spearmint works well too)

Sweetener (optional)

  • 1/3 cup liquid honey (or agave, or even maple syrup will work. If you use sugar, dissolve it in hot water and let cool before using)

Carbonated liquid (for serving):

  • 2 cups carbonated beverage sprite or citrus soda pop or club soda or carbonated water for fizz, add only right before serving

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients, including fruit, but excluding carbonated liquid (added when serving), in a pitcher and stir to mix. If you find this is too much fruit, divide in two, or use a larger pitcher. Use extra fruit and berries for garnish, or freeze it and use it for ice when serving!
  2. Refrigerate for 3 or 4 hours (up to 24 hours).
  3. Immediately before serving, add your choice of carbonated liquid (sprite, citrus soda pop, club soda, or carbonated water) to sangria. Serve over ice – by adding ice to the glasses (not to the pitcher with sangria). Garnish each glass with extra berries and fruit and I always add a sprig of mint.
  4. Enjoy!
